SPE Student Chapter Week was held at Gubkin University
From 26 September to 2 October 2021, the Week of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Student Chapter was held at Gubkin University. During the Week interested students had the opportunity to find out more about Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter and its ongoing projects as well as to participate in lectures, professional competitions and join the activist community.
As part of the program, a tour to the Oil Pavilion at VDNKh was organized to demonstrate the available resources of an interactive educational and methodological center that was established to promote the history of Russian oil and the development of national science and technology. The center is the largest multimedia exposition in Russia which presents scientific and applied industry issues and outlines the full production cycle of a vertically integrated oil company. During the tour, the participants were offered to strengthen their theoretical knowledge and learn about new technologies used in production.
During the open registration day, Gubkin University students received the opportunity to find out more about Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter and strengthen their knowledge of the oil industry. Interested students could also interact with the heads of the committees, learn about their activities, select the areas of their interest and join the Chapter.
Mr. Stepan Berkov, General Director of Petro Solutions LLC, delivered a lecture “How to launch a successful startup from scratch?" and spoke about the structure of the company and its main areas of activity, entrepreneurship, its pros and cons, possibilities for searching financial sources for one’s own business. In addition, the students were engaged in exercises aimed to strengthen their practical skills such as determining the uniqueness of business and its potential products.
On 28 September 2021, the Open Day of Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter was organized. During the event, the students were told about the Society of Petroleum Engineers and a variety of events and projects implemented by this organization.
The event program was very intensive and included a number of activities – the foreign language classes within the work in language clubs (English, French, Chinese, Czech), the Intellectual PetroOlympic Game and the lecture on the basics of office administration.
As part of SPE Global Communication project, a videoconference with students representing SPE Student Chapters at the University of Belgrade (Serbia) and the University of Leoben (Austria) was held to discuss the issues of the fuel and energy complex and the networking possibilities between the Chapters. During the meeting, students considered the opportunities for study trips to exchange experience and establish communication between Student Chapters.
Mr. Andrey Mitrofanov, Specialist at Thermal Solutions LTD, made a lecture on combustion equipment and talked about the ways to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions into the atmosphere.
At the end of SPE Student Chapter Week, a ceremony to induct new members was held.
