Knowledge Day at Gubkin University
On September 1, 2017 Gubkin University hosted a special event to celebrate the Day of Knowledge. The event was visited by the Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Kirill Molodtsov and top managers of the leading oil and gas companies, heads of the government authorities.
Traditionally, the event was held in the Palace of Culture "Gubkinets" and opened by a welcome speech made by the Rector of Gubkin University, Professor Viktor Martynov. “The first of September is not just the first day at the University, but a special day symbolizing constant aspiration of people for knowledge, for everything new and unknown. In the age of scientific and technological progress and rapid development of information technologies, education of an individual determines socio-economic dynamics of the society, his ability to work and develop. Our whole life is a learning process. The task of students is to obtain the maximum information and knowledge we will provide. Gubkin University was the leader of higher education in the Soviet Union, it remains nowadays. Gubkin University is the university of people talented in everything. We occupy leading positions in our country in science, sport and arts! Gubkin University is a big team. We are a team, we are a family! I congratulate you!" – said Viktor Martynov.
Representatives from the leading Russian and international companies, including Gazprom, Rosneft, Transneft, Lukoil, Baker Hughes, Halliburton International GmbH, Mosgaz, ROSGEO, also came to congratulate the newly admitted students, faculty and staff members.
Nearly 1,500 newly-admitted students came together to celebrate the Day of Knowledge at Gubkin University and feel for the first time being part of a large family.
This year the event participants were able to listen to the lecture “The Arctic and the World ocean: prospects and challenges of oil and gas field development” given by the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Engineering Vasily Bogoyavlensky.
The celebrating event closed with a bright show and a concert with participation of student performance groups. It was broadcast live on the Internet.
