XIII International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress «Oil and Gas Horizons» was held at Gubkin University
On 16 – 19 November 2021, the XIII International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress «Oil and Gas Horizons» was held at Gubkin University in a blended format, both onsite and offsite. Annually, the Congress is organized by Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter.
Oil and Gas Horizons is one of the largest international platforms for the exchange of knowledge and experience of oil and gas industry specialists from all over the world. In 2021, 219 students, postgraduates and young professionals representing 45 universities from 30 countries became participants of the Congress. International participants took part online due to the epidemiological situation.
The Congress program included two technical lectures delivered by oil and gas specialists, the international round table which brought together 18 university representatives from all over the world and the PetroOlympic Games organized with the support of GeoSplit LLC.
The core of the Congress were technical sessions, where students presented their projects in such disciplines as geosciences; drilling and completion; oil and gas field development; oil and gas logistics, storage and transportation; oil and gas chemistry; health, safety and environment; petroleum economics and management; smart technologies; engineering mechanics; law regulation of oil and gas industry. Two sessions – PhD and Young Professionals Paper Contest Upstream, PhD and Young Professionals Paper Contest Midstream & Downstream – were held for PhD students and young professionals. A new technical session «Towards a Sustainable Arctic Region» was organized jointly as part of the First International Interdisciplinary Scientific and Practical Conference «Man in the Arctic». A special session was held for schoolchildren from all over Russia to provide them with an opportunity to present research papers as part of the Energy4me educational program. In total, 100 secondary school and university students, postgraduates and young professionals became participants of technical sessions.
As part of the Congress, onsite participants were offered a cultural tour around Gubkin University and the sights of Moscow.
The Congress concluded with a ceremony to announce and award the winners of the technical sessions, the intellectual game and the technical case.
