University students and staff at the IV Congress of Young Scientists

From November 27 to 29, 2024, the IV Congress of Young Scientists was held at the Sirius Science and Art Park. Gubkinsky University was represented at the event by Dmitry Kopitsyn, leading researcher of the laboratory of functional energy-saving hybrid materials, Nina Dieva, associate professor of the Department of Oil and Gas and Underground Hydromechanics, Maria Rubtsova, assistant of the Department of Physics, Ivan Vasiliev, postgraduate student of the Department of Oil and Gas and Underground Hydromechanics, as well as students, activists of the student scientific society Sergey Vatuzov and Elizaveta Bragina.

The Congress of Young Scientists is the annual key event of the Decade of Science and Technology, announced by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation in order to strengthen the role of science and technology in solving the most important problems of the development of society and the country.

The Congress acts as the largest platform for dialog between advanced and fundamental science, government authorities and the real sector of the economy and sets the main vectors of scientific and technological development of Russia.

In 2024 the Congress was attended by more than 7000 people from 85 regions of the Russian Federation, including new Russian regions, and 63 foreign countries. The age of participants varies from 6 to 87 years old, the average age is 33 years. The number of universities that took part in the congress is about 500 institutions, 95 of them are foreign higher education institutions. In addition, the Congress hosted the IX BRICS Young Scientists Forum in 2024.

The business program of the congress traditionally included more than 200 round tables, sessions, discussions and educational events in various areas of research activities, which were attended by 933 speakers.

Gubkin University was represented at the congress by Dmitry Kopitsyn, leading researcher of the laboratory of functional energy-saving hybrid materials, Alexander Glotov, leading researcher of the laboratory of nanostructured materials and catalytic processes of carbon-containing raw materials processing, Maria Rubtsova, assistant professor of the Department of Physics, Nina Diyeva, associate professor of the Department of Oil and Gas and Underground Hydromechanics, Ivan Vasiliev, graduate student, and activists of the student scientific society: a student of the Faculty of Oil and Gas Fields Development.

All representatives of the University had a chance to get acquainted with the extensive exhibition program, which included displays of leading companies and scientific organizations, such as State Corporation “Rosatom”, PJSC “SIBUR Holding”, State Corporation “Rostec”, “Sber”, “Yandex”, PJSC “Gazprom Neft”, as well as expositions of the project “OUR LABA”, SIC “Kurchatov Institute”, “Scientific lounge” and an exhibition of initiatives of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia “Alley of Regions”.

The most significant event of the IV Congress of Young Scientists was the plenary session: it was attended by more than 1200 people. Russian President Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants and guests of the IV Congress of Young Scientists. At the opening of the plenary session it was read out by Andrey Fursenko, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation. In his greeting the Head of State noted Russia's openness to constructive, equal and mutually beneficial international partnership in the scientific sphere. The plenary session for the second time was held in the format of a dialog between talented young scientists who spoke about their scientific work and shared stories of their professional success, and mentors who assessed the relevance and potential of developments, gave competent advice on how to build an effective investment strategy, and offered support tools. The plenary session speakers were the authors of breakthrough scientific and technological developments and discoveries, heads of knowledge-intensive companies.
