Gubkin University faculty participated in the Forum of Rectors of Russian and Chinese Universities
On 22–26 October 2023, the Forum of Rectors of Russian and Chinese Universities was held in Harbin, China. At the event, Gubkin University was represented by Professor Vladimir Koshelev, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, and Ms. Ekaterina Prygaeva, Head of Department of International Scientific and Educational Projects.
In March 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed the Joint Statement on Deepening Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation for a New Era aimed to expand and deepen cooperation between Russia and China in the field of science and technology, education, economics and culture.
The Forum was organized by the Harbin Institute of Technology and Bauman Moscow State Technical University with the participation of the Harbin New District Management Committee, the China Experimental Free Trade Zone, the Administration of the Harbin Subdistrict of the Heilongjiang Experimental Free Trade Zone of China. It brought together high-level officials from the Chinese government, rectors and vice-rectors of 20 Russian universities and 38 Chinese universities.
During the Forum, participants discussed the greater role of Russian and Chinese technical universities in the comprehensive strategic partnership, opportunities and challenges of cooperation between universities of two countries and the practice of cooperation. Professor Vladimir Koshelev, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, shared the experience of Gubkin University in Chinese-Russian university cooperation.
Gubkin University representatives also participated in a meeting of coordinators of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU), where Gubkin University and the China University of Petroleum (East China) are rotating co-chairs for 2023-2025. ASRTU currently includes 75 higher education institutions. The ASRTU platform promotes exchanges between Russian and Chinese universities in the field of personnel training, scientific and technical cooperation, academic mobility and culture.
Gubkin University and the China University of Petroleum (East China) are the founders and co-chairs of the Academic Union of Green Development of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU Green). Professor Vladimir Koshelev presented working plans for the next two years, which will include organizing an online symposia to help improve the environmental friendliness of various industrial sectors, summer and winter schools, a competition of student scientific societies of ASRTU member universities. The China-Russia summit on promoting low-carbon technologies and methods in various industries and a meeting of ASRTU coordinators are planned for May 2025.
