The Sino – Russian Summer school «Sustainable development in energy and industry – the Gubkin University view» was held with great success from July 27 to August 2, 2024. The school was held within the framework of the Green Chapter of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU-GREEN) established in 2023.

The Sino – Russian Summer school «Sustainable development in energy and industry – the Gubkin University view» was held with great success from July 27 to August 2, 2024. The school was held within the framework of the Green Chapter of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU-GREEN) established in 2023.

The summer school is a continuation of activities aimed at expanding cooperation between Russian and Chinese colleagues on issues related to ecology, environmental protection, sustainable development of the fuel and energy complex and carbon neutrality.

Alexander Maksimenko, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and Valery Bessel, Professor of the thermodynamics and heat engines department, chief expert of ASRTU-GREEN on behalf of the Russian side, spoke at the opening ceremony and noted the importance of further development of cooperation between higher educational institutions of the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation in order to effectively address the issues of development of fuel and energy complex in our countries and to solve environmental problems. Another important part is the familiarization of Russian and Chinese students with the history, cultural values and historical traditions of our nations.

The school was attended by more than 75 Chinese undergraduate and post - graduate students from different universities: China University of Petroleum (East China) Qingdao, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin Engineering University, Beihang University, Jilin University, Shandong University and Yanshan University and more than 30 students of Gubkin University, including 13 Russian student volunteers who accompanied Chinese students throughout the summer school.

Great organizational support was provided by China University of Petroleum (East China) Qingdao.

On the first day, students got acquainted with the history of Gubkin University, visited the mineralogic and petrographic museum named after L.V. Pustovalov, the field development control center, the offshore drilling center, laboratories of the colloidal and physical chemistry department and the kerosene lamp museum.

Professors and researchers of Gubkin University gave a series of lectures on various topics related to technical, legal and economic aspects, with a total of 15 lectures given.

In addition to the rich educational program, Chinese students got acquainted with our capital. During the tour of Moscow, they visited many iconic places, including the Kremlin, Red Square, Alexander Garden, Sparrow Hills, the Poklonnaya Hill and learned a lot of new things on the history of Russia. They devoted their free time to walking through the most beautiful sights of Moscow, getting acquainted with Russian cuisine and felt all the sincerity and openness of Russian people.

Chinese students surprised everyone and prepared creative performances. The song "Katyusha" sounded from the stage of Gubkin University, a dance with fans was demonstrated, and the head of the Chinese delegation, Professor Sun Xiao Dong, performed several Russian songs in Chinese.

Ms. Dai Caili, Vice President for international and scientific research of China University of Petroleum (East China) Qingdao, took part in the closing ceremony of the summer school, which was held at VDNKh in the “Oil” pavilion on August 2, 2024. In her video message, she expressed warm congratulations on its success and sincere respect and gratitude to Gubkin University. In addition, Ms. Dai Caili said: "2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China. During the visit of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to the PRC in May, China and Russia issued a joint statement on deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership. The statement calls for “constantly strengthening cooperation in the field of education, encouraging student mobility, expanding visits and cooperation, training high-level talents and joint research, and promoting the activities of the Russian-Chinese Association of Universities”. It is in this context that this summer school is of particular importance and it has become an important milestone in the cooperation and academic mobility of ASRTU."

At the end of the ceremony, Alexander Maksimenko, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, presented all the participants with certificates of participation, then a general commemorative photo was taken.

The parties expressed interest in further developing relations and holding summer schools.
