Gubkin University at the World Engineers Convention 2019 and the General Assembly of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations
On 18 – 24 November 2019, the World Engineers Convention 2019 (WEC 2019) and the General Assembly of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations were held in Melbourne, Australia. At both events, Gubkin University was represented by the Professor, Deputy Head of the Department of Oil and Gas Wells Drilling of the Faculty of Oil and Gas Field Development Valery Kulchitsky.
Held every four years, and for the first time in Australia, the World Engineers Convention is a unique opportunity for engineers from across the globe to advance their technical knowledge, network and to tackle many of the big questions facing the world.
Under the banner Engineering a Sustainable World: The Next 100 Years, the convention program featured six themes aligning to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
- How new technology and innovations are reshaping engineering
- Engineering for humanity: responsive design for greater liveability
- Fostering diversity and inclusion
- Preparing the next generation of engineers
- Engineering leadership, governance and influence
- Our changing climate: mitigation, resilience and adaptation
This time the convention brought together about 500 speakers and participants from over 70 countries.
During the session “Preparing the next generation of engineers”, the participants discussed the issues of strengthening the practical orientation of higher education, introducing practical disciplines into educational engineering programs, applying multimedia and digital technologies, visualization systems in the educational process, and offering distance interactive production training.
Valery Kulchitsky informed the convention participants about the goals and objectives of the Russian higher education in petroleum engineering, the trends in the development of educational services, as well as expressed the intention to continue cooperation, exchange experience in training and retraining young engineers.
As part of the official program, the representatives of the Russian delegation met with the Engineers Australia National President and Chair of the Board Ms. Trish White.
