The week of SPE Student Chapter was held at Gubkin University
On 14-20 September 2020, the week of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Student Chapter was held at Gubkin University. Interested students received the opportunity to find out more about Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter and its ongoing projects as well as to participate in lectures and professional competitions.
During the week, two online lectures with participation of over 50 attendees were organized. Mr. Sergey Kolbikov, Head of Field Development Forecast and Monitoring Division at NOVATEK, spoke about large production projects, including the development and launch of Yamal LNG Project, geological and geographical challenges as well as the implementation of an integrated approach in the development of oil and gas condensate fields. Mr. Andrey Mitrofanov, Lead Field Engineer at John Zink Hamworthy Combustion, shared his experience of working with foreign combustion and flare equipment, and provided examples of emission reduction by industrial enterprises.
As part of the event, the Board members of Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter organized the online conference “Open Day”, where they presented the international society of oil and gas engineers and its areas of activity. In addition, the heads of the committees shared key information about the current projects and the opportunities that are open for activists.
The event program was very intensive, and included a number of substantial activities – the online presentation of the project “Language Clubs” and the first classes in seven languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian), the Intellectual PetroOlympic Game, the online meeting between Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter (Russia), Pennsylvania State University (USA), Louisiana State University (USA) and the University of Belgrade (Serbia), where representatives discussed the prospects for future cooperation, and two academic tours to the Oil Pavilion opened with the support of LUKOIL.
SPE Student Chapter of Gubkin University was established in 2003 in order to involve the University students in international research and professional activities. It maintains contacts with other SPE Student Chapters around the world, holds various events internationally and receives international delegations and industry representatives.
