Faculty of Humanities

General information

The Faculty of Humanities contributes to coordination of teaching the humanities, development of joint teaching and learning aids, organization of scientific and practical conferences, methodological workshops in various humanities areas. One of the most important tasks of the Faculty is to participate in creation of social and cultural environment of the University.

Projects, initiatives, events

The Faculty members organize the University and district academic competitions on the humanities.

Annually the Faculty hosts the university-wide events, including the contest of creative student projects – My Little Homeland, Intellectual Marathon on the humanities, Parliamentary Debate, publishes electronic almanac of student projects – My Family during the War.

There are the Russian Language Club, the Motherland History Club, the Cinema Club at B5 and the Eureka Discussion Club on issues of contemporary world politics and international relations at the premises of the Faculty.

Students may visit historical places of Moscow and the Moscow region, museums, theaters, exhibitions, watch movies together and discuss them afterwards.

Social research is conducted at the Faculty.

Within the framework of the annual International Youth Scientific Conference, the Faculty holds sections on the humanities, including the school section in foreign languages on development of oil and gas complex.

Much attention is paid to physical training and sports. The University sports contest in 15 sports and the campus sports contest in 8 sports are regularly held. In addition, Gubkin University students participate in Russian and international competitions. The most successful are the combined University teams in football, hockey, sambo, skiing, motorcycle racing and fitness aerobics.

Facts from history

The Faculty of Humanities was established by the order of the Rector on 21 December 1993 on the basis of seven departments – physical training and sport, foreign languages, Russian language, political history of the motherland, philosophy, problems of modern society development and history of world culture. The Professor Tatyana Gulyakevich was elected the first Dean of the Faculty.

In 2006, the first student Intellectual Marathon was held. Since then, the Marathon is held annually. In 2010, in consequence of merger of the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Problems of Modern Society Development, the Department of Philosophy, Social and Political Technologies was established. In 2013, the Department of Engineering Pedagogy was established to teach pedagogical disciplines for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students. In 2014, by merging the Department of Political History of the Motherland and the Department of the History of World Culture, the Department of History was established. In 2016 the first admission of students for Master's degree program in Advertising and Public Relations was made.
