Main Stage of the Admission Campaign Completed at Gubkin University
On August 7, 2026, the main stage of first-year admission to state-funded places for bachelor’s and specialist programmes was completed at Gubkin University. In total, 1,240 people were admitted to state-funded places in full-time and part-time modes of study, of whom 171 were enrolled under targeted education agreements with leading oil and gas companies.
In 2026, first-year admission to the university was accompanied by the opportunity for applicants to submit documents through the official public services portal (EPGU); the option to personally submit documents to the university’s admission office was also retained. In 2026, enrolment to state-funded places took place subject to the availability of consent for enrolment in the admission office, as was the case last year.
“The admission campaign is accompanied by a growing level of digitalisation. The number of applicants applying through the Unified Public Services Portal is noticeably higher than in 2025. It is now impossible to imagine submitting consent for enrolment without using this method; only a few risk submitting consent in person. Unfortunately, using such a convenient method of document submission as EPGU leads to the applicant not delving deeply into the admission rules, not seeking to find differences between specialties, and not familiarising themselves with the opportunities of the applicant’s personal account. I am glad that in these difficult conditions, applicants were able to make the right choice and become students of Gubkin University,” commented Viktor Telkov, Executive Secretary of the Admission Committee, on the results of the 2026 bachelor’s and specialist programme admission campaign.
Under the general competition for state-funded places at Gubkin University in 2026, school graduates from 89 regions of Russia applied. From Moscow and the Moscow region, 321 people were admitted to state-funded places, which is 26.2% of the total number of those admitted to state-funded places. Upon completion of the main stage of the admission campaign, state-funded places at the faculties were filled 100% in accordance with the admission targets.
In total, school graduates submitted 14,623 applications for full-time state-funded education. The competition based on applications amounted to 12.38 people per place.
The highest interest among applicants was attracted by such specialties and fields as “Petroleum Engineering and Technology”, “Computer Science and Engineering”, “Applied Mathematics”, “Chemical Technology”, “Control in Technical Systems”, “Information Security”, “Business Informatics”, and “Economic Security”. A noticeable increase in minimum and average Unified State Exam (USE) scores was recorded across all specialties; for individual specialties, the increase in minimum scores was 20–30 points. The highest passing score in 2026 was for state-funded places in competitive group No. 29, field 38.03.01 “Economics” – 280 (average score 285). The minimum passing score was in competitive group No. 4, field 05.03.06 “Ecology and Environmental Management” – 216 (average score 239). Based on the results of Olympiads from the list of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, 21 people were admitted without entrance examinations. Among those enrolled, 690 people have a high school diploma with honours, which accounted for 56% of the number admitted to state-funded places.
Within the framework of separate and special quotas for state-funded places, 152 people were admitted, which amounted to 12.4% of the total number of those admitted following the Gubkin University admission campaign.
It is also worth noting that in 2026, Gubkin University successfully carried out the second admission of applicants to its branch in Atyrau (Republic of Kazakhstan), where 100 students will begin studying oil and gas engineering with grants from the Republic. The 19th admission to the branch in Tashkent (Republic of Uzbekistan) resulted in the successful enrolment of 339 new Gubkin students.
The 2026 admission campaign for master’s programmes is in full swing; admission to state-funded places runs until August 20, 2026, and to fee-paying places until August 28, 2026.
“Applicants entering master’s programmes on a fee-paying basis in 2026 can apply on the basis of a portfolio; this form of entrance examination allows the applicant to complete the entire admission procedure more quickly. The applicant’s previous education and individual achievements are carefully reviewed by the examination committee, enabling a prompt assessment of the possibility of further study in a master’s programme at Gubkin University,” commented Viktor Telkov, Executive Secretary of the Admission Committee, on the features of the 2026 admission campaign.
