Session dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia

On May 15, 2026, Gubkin University hosted a session dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. It was part of an interdepartmental educational project involving the Department of Philosophy and Sociopolitical Technologies (Head of Department: Professor Marina Filatova), the Department of Foreign Languages (Head of Department: Associate Professor Ekaterina Simakova), and the Office of International Students (Vladimir Orkin).

The event was held in English. First-year master's students from the Faculty of Engineering Mechanics, as well as international students, actively participated in the preparation and conduct of the session. Natalia Shelyago, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages, moderated the session.

By decree of the President of the Russian Federation, 2026 was declared the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. Its main goal is to strengthen friendship, peace, and mutual understanding among all ethnic groups. This year's core principle reflects the idea of "Through Cultural Diversity to Unity," celebrating the uniqueness, languages, and traditions of hundreds of peoples. During the session, students discussed the cultural codes and histories of the following peoples of our country: Avars, Bashkirs, Buryats, Jews, Komi, Mordvins, Nenets, Nivkhs, Russians, Tatars, and Yakuts.

The students' papers placed particular emphasis on the concept of cultural pluralism. Participants substantiated the thesis that the diversity of traditions is a source of national wealth and the consolidation of society, rather than a factor in its division.
