University representatives among winners of the EcoMir-2025 International Environmental Competition

On February 6, 2026, the Central House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RANS) held an awards ceremony for the winners of the annual EcoMir-2025 International Environmental Competition and Prize, established by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RANS).

In 2025, the competition received approximately 180 applications from 67 regions of Russia, as well as from Belarus, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Bolivia, and African countries. RANS President Petr Burak opened the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of joining forces to create environmental well-being.

Welcoming speeches were delivered to the laureates by Nikolai Arefyev, Chairman of the Competition Board of Trustees and First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, as well as representatives of the diplomatic missions of Guinea, Pakistan, Burkina Faso, and other countries.

The first-degree laureates were awarded the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Order "For Contribution to the Development of Science and Economics." A special feature of the ceremony was the awarding of the research team led by Stanislav Meshcheryakov, Professor of the Department of Industrial Ecology, who received the first-degree award. The scientists' development focuses on a highly effective integrated technology for the remediation of oil-contaminated lands in the Stavropol Territory using a closed-loop economy.

At the gala event, Gubkin University was represented by a team of authors from the Industrial Ecology Department, including Stanislav Meshcheryakov, Professor of the Industrial Ecology Department; Elizaveta Bragina, Assistant and PhD student in the department; and Lev Yudaev, PhD student in the department; Alexey Lavrenchuk, Head of the Military Training Center; and Tatyana Gromova, Secretary of the Oil and Gas Section of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.

During the event, Nikolay Arefyev noted that the competition had generated a strong response: environmental education and resource-saving technologies were among the leading topics. Second- and third-place winners were awarded N.N. Moiseyev medals.

The event concluded with the presentation of diplomas and letters of gratitude to the organizers, as well as an emphasis on the importance of international cooperation in addressing environmental issues.

Artyom Kokukhin, Specialist in the Department of Youth Science and Scientific Events and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Student Scientific Society at Gubkin University, played an active role in organizing the event.
