Gubkin University celebrated the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War with celebratory events.

On May 6, 2026, Gubkin University held large-scale celebratory events dedicated to the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Throughout the day, students, faculty, university staff, and distinguished guests participated in commemorative events, which have become a tradition at Gubkin University in the lead-up to Victory Day.

The day began with a ceremonial parade of the university's Military Training Center. Rector Viktor Martynov and the Head of the Military Training Center, Colonel Alexey Lavrenchuk, congratulated the students and presented awards to outstanding students. Participants in the All-Russian Military Applied Games "Cup of the Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces (VKS)" were awarded certificates of honor and medals for their active participation. These prestigious competitions among teams from military training centers at Russian universities have become an important stage in the preparation of future defenders of the Fatherland.

The events continued with the opening of a specialized sports ground. The facility, equipped for testing as part of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex "Ready for Labor and Defense" (GTO), is designed to promote the health and physical fitness of students. The ground is fully equipped to pass the GTO standards in all required disciplines and will become an important element of athletic training not only for students studying at the Military Training Center but also for all students.

The central event of the day was the traditional flower-laying ceremony at the memorial to the students and staff of the institute who died in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

"We honor the memory of the heroes and workers who forged Victory in the Great Patriotic War not only on the battlefield but also in the home front." Over the years, the university has received 17 state awards for scientific research that helped decide the outcome of the fight against fascism. These include the synthesis of new fuels for the military, the development of high-speed drilling technologies, and much more. Today, together with millions of Russians, we also support the defenders of the Motherland. I thank everyone who participates in volunteer efforts, provides aid, and contributes to strengthening the country's defense capability," said Rector Viktor Martynov, addressing the gathering.

The Rector also explained why the university is holding celebratory events on May 6th – this day has long been associated with the memory of St. George the Victorious, who, in the guise of a dragon-slayer on horseback, symbolizes the fight against evil and the patronage of our soldiers and the Motherland.

Stanislav Shiryaev, head of the Gagarinsky District Administration; Anatoly Petrukovich, director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow City Duma deputy, and RAS academician; and Dmitry Nazarov, military doctor and deputy head of the N.N. Burdenko Main Military Clinical Hospital branch.

Following this, a gala concert dedicated to Victory Day was held at the V.N. Vinogradov Gubkinets Palace of Culture. Rector Viktor Martynov addressed the participants with a welcoming address.

"Dear Gubkinets residents! It is a great honor for me to be present at your university for this festive event dedicated to Victory Day. There is not a single family that was not touched by the Great Patriotic War. Victory was forged both at the front and in the rear. Our universities and scientists made a significant contribution to the Great Victory. "Today, our task is to honor, remember, and be proud of the heroic deeds of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, and to preserve historical memory. Happy Victory Day!" said Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, in a congratulatory speech.

The cultural program included performances by creative groups from the Gubkinets Palace of Culture, who performed works from the war years.

The events concluded with the laying of a wreath and flowers by the Gubkin University staff at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden.
