Gubkin University Celebrated Its 96th Anniversary

On April 17, 2026, Gubkin University held celebrations to mark the 96th anniversary of the university's founding – "Gubkinist Day 2026." Representatives of Russia's leading oil and gas companies, businesses, and government agencies attended the event.

The celebration began with the traditional flower-laying ceremony at the burial sites of the university's rectors at Novodevichy Cemetery. The delegation, which included representatives of the university's council of elders and leadership, honored the memory of the university's outstanding rectors: I.M. Gubkin, V.N. Vinogradov, A.V. Topchiev, and K.F. Zhigach. Each of these leaders made a significant contribution to the development of not only Gubkin University but also the entire system of oil and gas and engineering education in Russia.

The ceremonies continued with a flower-laying ceremony at the monument to the university's founder, the eminent geologist Ivan Mikhailovich Gubkin, located in front of the university entrance. Students, faculty, university administration, and members of the board of the Gubkin Alumni Foundation participated in the ceremony.

A special event of the day was the unveiling of a stained-glass mural, "Energy in the Service of Humanity!", in the university's portrait gallery. The mural's author, muralist and member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, Dmitry Kostylev, depicted milestones in the development of energy and its role in humanity's discovery of new frontiers of science and technology. The exhibition was opened by Rector Viktor Martynov, representatives of the Gubkin Alumni Foundation, and distinguished guests.

The festivities continued with a ceremonial parade of personnel from the Military Training Center. The faculty and students were congratulated by Gubkin University Rector Viktor Martynov, Head of the Military Training Center Alexey Lavrenchuk, and retired Major General Viktor Kauk, Head of the Central Directorate of Rocket Fuel and Fuel of the Russian Ministry of Defense (2007-2009).

The main event of the celebratory program was a concert at the Gubkinets Palace of Culture.

"Dear Gubkinets residents and distinguished guests! Today we celebrate the 96th anniversary of our university – a university with a rich history that has always kept pace with the times, adapting to challenging periods in the development of the country and the oil and gas industry. We are united by shared values ​​and dedication to our alma mater. Over the years, Gubkin University has trained more than 150,000 specialists and more than 22,000 reserve officers, soldiers, and sergeants of the Fuel Service. "I sincerely thank our faculty, students, and all our partners for their tireless work and contribution to the development of our university. I wish everyone good health, prosperity, and continued professional success!" said Rector Viktor Martynov in his welcoming address.

Warm congratulations from government officials and leading Russian oil and gas companies echoed from the stage of the V.N. Vinogradov Gubkinets Palace of Culture.

The festive day concluded with a gala concert prepared by the Gubkinets Palace of Culture's creative teams. The concert was directed by Valentina Nikolaeva, Head of the Folk Dance Sector and Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
