Gubkin Tourists in the Caucasus Mountains

From April 29 to May 12, 2026, a group of ten students from the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) hiking club completed a first-category off-season hike in the Tuapse District of Krasnodar Krai.

The hike was timed to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The group visited sites of military glory and the region of the heroic battle of the Soviet people against the Nazi invaders for Caucasian oil. The Gubkin students faced harsh weather conditions, visited the snow-capped peaks of the Main Caucasus Range, gained valuable experience working as a group in unusually cold weather for that time of year, and practiced and reinforced the skills acquired during their training with the hiking club.

The expedition was led by second-year student Sergei Ivanov from the Faculty of Oil and Gas Geology and Geophysics. The group included first- through third-year students from Gubkin University's Faculty of Oil and Gas Geology and Geophysics and the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Ecology, as well as friends from friendly universities.

The hiking club continues its work and preparations for new expeditions and competitions. Everyone is welcome.
