Gubkin Dynasties. The History of the Koshelev Family
“We come to the university different, but leave the same – Gubkinites,” said Albert Ilyich Vladimirov. These words perfectly reflect the fate of our family, whose history is inextricably linked with Gubkin University.
My father, Nikolai Nikolaevich Koshelev, became the founder of our dynasty. His path was not an easy one. After school, he went into the army and was sent to the Melitopol Aviation School, which he graduated from in May 1941. Almost immediately, the war began, and my father turned up at the front. He served in night aviation and during the war years, he made 697 combat missions. After the victory in 1946, he was demobilized and entered the preparatory department of the Gubkin Moscow Oil Institute.
It was hard to study after the war: there were harsh war years behind them, together with a long break in education. But my father coped with the difficulties. In 1952, he graduated from the institute and started to work there.

Nikolay Nikolaevich Koshelev during his studies at the university
He was elected the chairman of the trade union committee three times, was appointed as a dean of the evening faculty, headed the mechanical faculty for 10 years, and then became head of the department. Gubkin University became his second home.
Therefore, it is not surprising that my sister Tatyana followed in his footsteps. In 1963, she entered the chemical engineering faculty and graduated in 1968. And even as a schoolboy I was inextricably linked with the university. I attended all the creative events, concerts, KVN performances, and knew many artists. Therefore, when I graduated from school in 1970, the choice was obvious – Gubkin University.
To be honest, the faculty came with a surprise. My father was preparing me to become a mechanical engineer, chemistry was poorly taught at school, and it seemed to me that this subject was not for me. Everything changed when Associate Professor Vladimir Dmitrievich Tyurin came to us. He opened the world of chemistry for us, showed its depth and beauty. So I entered the Chemical Engineering Faculty, graduated in 1975 and stayed at the university: I went from being a research intern to the head of the department of organic chemistry and oil chemistry.

Vladimir Koshelev with postgraduate student Kirill Ilkov
Since 1998, at the invitation of Albert Ilyich Vladimirov, I have been working in the rector's office.
I always wanted my children to continue our dynasty. The eldest son Anton graduated from the pipeline faculty in 2001, the youngest, Vladimir, completed his master's degree in 2010 and worked at the university for some time. But his heart belongs to creativity, and he chose a different path.

With the eldest grandson Maxim, they took part in the Immortal Regiment
However, I believe that the Koshelev dynasty will not be interrupted. I have two wonderful grandsons. The eldest, Maxim, has been to the university more than once, accompanies me to football matches and participates in the life of the university. His photos can be seen in the university almanac - he is always in first place. The youngest, Sergei, is three years old as of now, but I am sure that one day he will also become a Gubkin student.
