A university student at the start of a mountain ultramarathon in Australia

Gubkin University student Nikolai Konyukhov took part in one of Australia's most challenging mountain ultramarathons, the Australia Alpine Ascent.

During his visit to Australia to participate in the sporting event, Nikolai Konyukhov represented the Russian student body and sports community, demonstrating that Russian students actively participate in international sporting events, representing the country and university with dignity on the global stage.

A working meeting with Mikhail Petrakov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Australia, was held at the Russian Embassy in Canberra. At the meeting, Nikolai Konyukhov spoke about the activities of the Russian Student Sports Union (RSSU) and outlined the movement's mission: promoting the unification of people through sport, with a particular emphasis on the development of youth sports communities and student initiatives.

On February 17, 2026, a meeting with Consul General Zarina Gabieva was held at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Sydney.

Participation in international competitions is not only about sport and a personal challenge, but also about the mission of public diplomacy: sport establishes connections between young people from different countries, develops trust and mutual understanding, and fosters a positive image of Russia and Russian education abroad.
