University students and staff at events celebrating Russian Science Day
On February 8, 2026, Russia celebrated Russian Science Day, an official national holiday held annually since 1999.
Themed educational events dedicated to Russian Science Day were held on February 7 and 8, 2026. Gubkin University students participated in various events, including the science and educational dictation "Science Without Borders" and the premiere screening of the documentary film "Russia – Laboratory of Peace" at the Biotechnology Center "BIOTECH Museum." The dictation focused on the achievements of such Russian scientists as Mikhail Lomonosov, Dmitri Mendeleev, Pyotr Kapitsa, and Igor Kurchatov, whose names are known throughout the world. The documentary film "Russia – Laboratory of Peace" tells the story of scientists with international experience who have chosen Russia as the primary location for their scientific and professional work.
On February 8, 2026, Russian Science Day events were held at the National Center "Russia." A delegation from Gubkin University, including students, staff, and members of the university's student scientific society, participated in the plenary session, where young scientists, government representatives, and media experts discussed the structure of the modern science support system in Russia, how to build a career trajectory, and why young scientists are the new heroes.
The speakers were:
– Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation;
– Anastasia Zvyagina, Deputy Director General of the National Center "Russia";
– Stanislav Drobyshevsky, PhD, anthropologist, associate professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University, leader of the public movement for the popularization of science "Drobyshevsky Projects";
– Coordinator of the "VYZOV" community, Doctor of Political Sciences Valeria Rodina;
– Associate Professor of the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University, publisher of the popular science online publication "N + 1," Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Andrey Konyaev;
– General Director of the VTsIOM Analytical Center, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Valery Fedorov.
The plenary session was followed by lectures such as "How Mathematics Creates Art," "Achievements of Modern Physics," "AI That Thinks: Beyond Big Data," and many others.
Science is the main driver of modern development, and it is fully supported at Gubkin University. Therefore, participation in events like Russian Science Day is an integral part of the leisure time of students and staff at the university.
