University representatives at the 5th Congress of Young Scientists

The 5th Congress of Young Scientists was held at the Sirius University of Science and Technology from November 26 to 28, 2025. Staff and students from Gubkin University participated in the event.

The Congress of Young Scientists is a key event of the Decade of Science and Technology, declared by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation to strengthen the role of science and technology in addressing the most important development challenges of society and the country.

The Congress serves as the largest platform for dialogue between advanced and fundamental science, government, and the real economy, and sets the key vectors for scientific and technological development.

The business program included over 550 events, combining the business program with events at the exhibition stands. These included discussions, lectures, scientific battles, master classes, film screenings, intellectual games, and presentations. In 2025, over 16,000 applications were submitted for participation in the congress. Over 8,000 participants from 89 regions of Russia and 100 foreign countries took part in the congress events, including representatives from 480 Russian and 44 foreign universities.

It is worth noting the events related to grant support from the Russian Science Foundation, which were attended by staff from the Department of Physical and Colloid Chemistry. At these lectures, RSF representatives discussed modern tools for supporting fundamental and applied research, the review system, the specifics of the competitive selection process, and provided practical recommendations for preparing applications and reports.

Sirius University of Science and Technology also hosted the defense of projects for the student program "Big Challenges." Over the course of two weeks, participants actively worked on 25 projects that address current challenges in key areas of modern science and technology. The expert committee for the project competition included Gubkin University staff members Vladislava Zharkova, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geoecology, and Anna Zenovskaya, Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Programs.

The congress marked the completion of the internship program of the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education of the Presidential Council for Science and Education, launched in December 2024. Gubkin University was represented in the internship by Ivan Vanchugov, Head of the Department for Organizing Youth Science and Scientific Events, and Ruslan Shapovalov, Chairman of the Student Scientific Society. Representing members of the Gubkin University Student Scientific Society at external venues is being implemented through a federal budget subsidy to higher education institutions for the implementation of activities aimed at supporting student scientific communities as part of the university's Student Scientific Society development program, "Unifying Science: From Popularization to Practice."
