The Gubkin Model of BRICS+
From November 19 to 21, 2025, a large-scale educational platform, the "Gubkin Model of BRICS+," was held at Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National University), organized by the International Committee of the Student Scientific Society.
The event brought together students from many countries, including Turkmenistan, Egypt, Chad, Venezuela, Mongolia, and Iraq. In addition to Gubkin University students, participants included representatives from the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, HSE, RANEPA, and the State Academic University for the Humanities. The students acted as delegates of BRICS+ member states and had a unique opportunity to delve deeply into the specifics of the international energy sector, master the intricacies of diplomacy, and gain experience in drafting significant strategic documents.
The platform's program began with a formal opening, where Ekaterina Prygaeva, Head of the Department of International Scientific and Educational Projects at the International Relations Office, welcomed participants. The program then included a lecture by Artem Popadko, Assistant Professor at the Department of (Basic) World Economy and Energy Policy (IMEMO RAS), a roundtable discussion on the global energy balance, and meetings of the Russian-language and English-language committees. Participants were given the opportunity to learn about the functioning of international organizations, decision-making procedures at the intergovernmental level, and tools for implementing energy diplomacy.
The practical component of the event emphasized the development and advancement of professional competencies.
During the sessions, students:
– honed their public speaking skills and articulated their position;
– acquired skills in maintaining constructive dialogue and organizing international negotiations;

– mastered effective teamwork skills in a multipolar debate.
Following the meetings, winners were announced in several categories:
