The Republic of Sudan is interested in using advanced Russian technologies in developing the Red Sea shelf. This was stated on August 7, 2025, by the coordinator of the Ministry of Oil of the Republic of Sudan for relations with the Russian Federation, Jamal Hadi, at a meeting of the delegation of the Center for Petroleum and Technical Training (scientific and educational division of the Ministry of Oil) of the Republic of Sudan with the leadership of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) named after I.M. The event was held at the university site with the support of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.

“Gubkin University conducts promising scientific research in the field of exploration and development of hard-to-recover oil and gas reserves on the shelf and has advanced technologies for training specialists to work at these facilities,” said Jamal Hadi.

The university has created the only Offshore Drilling Center in the country and the third in the world, where digital twins of geological structures are used, and it is possible to simulate any production situation. With the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, the university has begun organizing the first training ground in Russia for equipment for underwater production systems.

At a meeting at Gubkin University, the parties discussed the possibility of concluding a Memorandum of Scientific and Educational Cooperation between the Center for Petroleum and Technical Training of the Republic of Sudan and the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University).

Gubkin University has expanded the geography of international cooperation from 74 to 97 countries from 2022 to the present. In particular, it has begun accepting students from Laos, Malaysia, Rwanda and other countries. The university trains oil and gas specialists in the interests of leading Russian and foreign companies, and is also developing promising technologies for the industry.
