Series of Meetings of the Oil and Gas Section of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences

On March 25, April 28, and June 18, 2026, a series of meetings of the Oil and Gas Section of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences was held at Gubkin University. The meetings were chaired by Professor Alexander Muradov, Chairman of the Oil and Gas Section of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.

The series included presentations and discussions of scientific papers on current issues in the development of the oil and gas industry: the formation of Russian oil price benchmarks, assessing the prospects for developing the gas potential of offshore sedimentary basins, developing logistics schemes for Arctic oil and gas, and digitalizing oil and gas industry tasks.

On March 25, 2026, Professor Pavel Katyukha, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Head of the Department of Oil and Gas Trading and Logistics at Gubkin University, and Doctor of Economics, presented a report entitled "The Concept of Forming Russian Oil Price Benchmarks in the Context of Growing Uncertainty in the Global Hydrocarbon Market." The report addressed the formation of national oil price benchmarks, their importance for the sustainable development of the domestic oil market, and the role of Russian pricing instruments in the context of the transformation of global energy trade.

On April 28, 2026, Professor Viktor Skorobogatov, Doctor of Geological and Mineral Sciences, presented a report entitled "Prospects for the Study and Development of the Gas Potential of the Subsoil of the World's Offshore Sedimentary Basins in the 21st Century." The report focused on modern approaches to studying gas resource bases, assessing the prospects of offshore territories, and the importance of geological exploration for long-term energy security. On June 18, 2026, two reports were presented during the meeting. Mikhail Grigoriev, PhD in Geology and Mineralogy, a full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Director of the Geological Consulting Center GEKON LLC, and a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Scientific Council for Arctic and Antarctic Studies, presented a report titled "Development of Arctic Oil and Gas Logistics Schemes." In his presentation, he examined key factors influencing the development of Arctic oil and gas projects, including transport and logistics infrastructure, the specifics of developing hard-to-reach territories, and the importance of the Arctic for Russia's energy strategy.

Vasily Pishchukhin, PhD in Engineering, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Leading Researcher at Gazprom VNIIGAZ LLC, and a leading researcher at Gazprom VNIIGAZ, presented a report titled "The Evolution of Digitalization in the Oil and Gas Industry." The report focused on the development of digital tools in the oil and gas industry, their application in solving engineering, production, and research problems, and the role of digitalization in improving the efficiency of oil and gas facility management.

Following the meetings, scientific discussions took place, during which participants discussed the practical significance of the presented approaches and the potential for their application in the operations of oil and gas companies, research organizations, and educational institutions. Particular attention was paid to issues of technological sovereignty, the development of a national scientific school, and strengthening the connection between fundamental research, industry expertise, and the practical challenges of the fuel and energy sector.

Holding meetings of the RANS Oil and Gas Section at Gubkin University facilitates expert dialogue between representatives of science, education, and the oil and gas industry, and creates additional opportunities for engaging students and young scientists in discussions of current scientific and technical issues. At the end of the meeting, new members were elected to the RANS Oil and Gas Section.

The event was organized with the participation of the student scientific society of Gubkin University.
