International Scientific and Practical Conference: Synergy 2018 was held at Gubkin University

On November 28, 2018 International Scientific and Practical Conference “Synergy 2018” was held at Gubkin University. The event was aimed to discuss the integrative training of line engineers for Russian oil and gas and petrochemical companies.

The conference was opened by the Rector of Gubkin University, professor Viktor Martynov who made a video presentation on the topic: “Digital Infrastructure of the National Research University” during the session “Challenges of digital transformation to engineering education”. In his report, Viktor Martynov noted that “digital transformation of our economy, education is a very urgent challenge of our time. Today, our key document is the national program by 2024 “Digital Economy of the Russian Federation” approved in 2017 and aimed at major work”.

After the opening ceremony of the conference, the session “On-line demonstration of interdisciplinary student training in trajectory management (geo-steering) of a virtual horizontal well bore during its drilling in a virtual field” was delivered by the Head of the Department of Oil and Gas Wells Drilling, Professor Alexander Oganov, the Advisor to the Rector Viktor Sheynbaum and the Associate Professor of the Department of Oil and Gas Wells Drilling Alexei Arkhipov.

The conference was divided into three blocks. The first and second blocks of the conference were held in the format of panel discussions – “Engineering in the digital economy” and "Training of engineers for the digital economy". The third block of the event was held in the format of a plenary sessions. The panel discussions were conducted by the Rector of Gubkin University Viktor Martynov and the President of the Association for Engineering Education of Russia Yuri Pokholkov, and the moderator of the plenary session became the Advisor to the Rector Viktor Sheynbaum.

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister for Energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin, the Vice Rector for Promising Projects, Director of the Engineering Center at St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University Alexei Borovkov, the Vice President of Schlumberger Russia and Central Asia Artem Karapetov, the General Director of Mobile Electronic Education Alexander Kondakova, the President of the National Chamber of Engineers of the Institute of Industrial Engineering Igor Mescherin, the Deputy Chairman of the National Council on Professional Qualifications Fedor Prokopov and the Director General of LUKOIL-Nizhegorodniinefteproekt Marat Usmanov, who made their presentations during the conference.

The participants noted the importance of the conference the main goal of which was to serve as a platform for discussing pressing issues and finding opportunities for cooperation.
