Gubkin University Students Completed the Climate Diplomacy Research School-Conference at Sirius

From August 19 to 21, 2026, representatives from Gubkin University participated in the "International Diplomacy and Climate Change" research school-conference held at the Sirius University of Science and Technology. Seventy students and young researchers from 14 Russian regions participated in the third cohort, having passed a competitive selection process.

Gubkin University was represented by five students. The Faculty of Oil and Gas Geology and Geophysics was represented by Alina Kiseleva and Denis Kuznetsov, master's students from the GEM-24-03 group, and Matvey Deev and Sofia Egorova, undergraduate students from the GE-23-06 group. The Faculty of Oil and Gas Field Development was represented by Stepan Zainulin, a postgraduate student from the NGA-25-02 group.

During the three-day intensive course, participants studied the scientific foundations of climate change, international climate agreements, climate risks, and adaptation strategies for economic sectors. Particular attention was paid to environmental and climate diplomacy, negotiation strategies, water and food security, climate finance, biodiversity conservation, and science-policy communication.

The practical portion of the program included negotiation simulations and interdisciplinary project work: participants developed scientifically sound recommendations on current issues on the international climate agenda and proposals for the COP31 Youth Day program.

This experience enabled university representatives to develop public speaking, teamwork, and negotiation skills necessary for advocating for national interests and addressing climate challenges.
