Gubkin University faculty members presented the results of joint scientific work

The faculty members of the Department of Physical and Colloid Chemistry of Gubkin University together with colleagues from the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of Kazan Federal University and with the support of the Russian Science Foundation, proposed the use of cadmium sulfide quantum dots as an agent for photocatalytic inactivation of bacteria.

The work was carried out under the supervision of Ms. Anna Stavitskaya, Senior Researcher of the Department of Physical and Colloid Chemistry, Candidate of Technical Sciences, by students Ms. Eliza Sitmukhanova and Elnara Khusnetdenova, postgraduate students Ms. Kristina Mazurova and Ms. Adeliya Sayfutdinova, senior researcher Mr. Kirill Cherednichenko together with colleagues from the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of Kazan Federal University. Inactivation of bacteria by visible light in the presence of nanostructured materials is an alternative approach to overcome the serious problem of increasing resistance of pathogenic bacteria to antibiotics.

The results of the study are published in the leading international journal Pharmaceutics. The work was carried out within the framework of the scientific project “Metal sulfides stabilized on natural nanotubes as agents for photocatalytic inactivation of bacteria” with the support of the Russian Science Foundation.
