Gubkin University at the 1st Forum of Rectors of Russia and Mongolia
From July 4 to 6, 2025, the 1st Forum of Rectors of Russian and Mongolian Universities was held in Ulan-Ude at the D. Banzarov Buryat State University, which brought together over 150 representatives from 70 leading universities of the Russian Federation and 12 key universities of Mongolia.
On July 4, 2025, the grand opening ceremony began with a video address to the guests of the forum by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov.
“There are more than 370 agreements between the universities of our countries, and a number of documents will still be signed. Joint educational programs are being implemented, scientific research is being conducted, and exchanges of teachers and students are actively developing. "A bright step in this direction was the opening of the Center for Mongolian Language and Culture at the Buryat State University," Deputy Minister Konstantin Mogilevsky noted in his greeting, calling the main task for today to fill the inter-university cooperation with new projects and fresh initiatives.
The Minister of Education of Mongolia, Purevsurengiin Naranbayar, also made a welcoming speech, noting that the level and number of the Mongolian delegation that arrived at the forum is a bright example of the scale of cooperation. At the end of his speech, Purevsurengiin Naranbayar confirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Education of Mongolia to further develop relations.
During the ceremony, copies of the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education of Mongolia in the field of higher education for 2025-2029, signed by the leadership of the two ministries, were exchanged.
The event became an important platform for dialogue in the field of education, scientific research and technological interaction between the two countries. Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) was represented by Nikita Golunov, Vice-Rector for Continuing Professional Education, who took part in the panel session “Education as a Factor in Sustainable Cooperation between Russia and Mongolia” and presented a detailed report on the topic “Prospects for the Development of Human Resources Potential of Mongolian Oil and Gas Companies Based at Gubkin University”, revealing the significant potential of the university in developing professional competencies of specialists in the oil and gas sector of Mongolia. This presentation demonstrated the importance of the university’s role in training personnel for the economies of both countries, emphasizing the uniqueness of the experience and high professionalism of the Gubkin University team.
The active work at the forum resulted in the signing of key bilateral cooperation agreements. Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (SHUTIS), providing for a long-term international partnership for a period of five years. The document opens up new horizons for the development of international relations in the academic and scientific fields, joint development of educational programs, joint research and cultural exchange.
"Today, important cooperation agreements are being signed within the framework of the forum. During the pandemic and after it, our interaction has weakened a little. That is why I am especially glad that today's event has become a serious step towards resuming close ties between our universities. I am confident that these agreements will become the basis for new joint projects, forums and initiatives aimed at the development of science, technology and education," said Tumurpurev Namnan, Rector of the Mongolian National University of Science and Technology.
In addition, the event included B2B meetings, an exhibition of scientific and technological achievements of universities in the Republic of Buryatia "Personnel Decide Everything!" and a presentation of the book "Russian-Mongolian Cooperation in Higher Education".
The forum in Ulan-Ude has become a significant event and an important step in strengthening educational and scientific cooperation between leading universities in Russia and Mongolia.
