Gubkin Model of OPEC+
From March 27 to 28, 2025, the International Committee of the Student Scientific Society held the "Gubkin Model of OPEC+" at the university venue, where students and experts immersed themselves in the world of global energy. The event allowed participants to try on the roles of diplomats and discuss key issues of the oil market.
Artem Popadko, an assistant of the (Basic) Department of World Economy and Energy Policy (based at IMEMO RAS), and Alexander Ivlyushkin, an assistant of the Department of Public and International Legal Support of National Security, a postgraduate student, were invited to participate in this event.
The first lecture discussed modern technological achievements, such as digitalization of production processes, the use of artificial intelligence to optimize production, and the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies. The main goal of the lecture was to familiarize participants with key innovations that contribute to increasing the efficiency and sustainability of the oil industry. The second lecture touched upon the historical aspects of the formation of OPEC, its role in regulating the global oil market, and prospects for cooperation with Russia. Particular attention was paid to the issues of stabilizing oil prices and joint efforts to ensure energy security.
The model consisted of two committees - English- and Russian-speaking. More than 50 people took part in the game, including foreign students from countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Mongolia, Germany, Venezuela, Zambia and Belarus studying in Russia. The event allowed the participants not only to deepen their knowledge in the field of energy, but also to develop diplomatic negotiation skills in an international format. At the end of the event, a closing ceremony and awards ceremony for the best delegates of each committee took place.
