Anniversary International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress “Oil and Gas Horizons” was held at Gubkin University

On November 19–22, 2018 the 10th International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress "Oil and Gas Horizons” was held at Gubkin University. In 2018, 80 undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students from 29 universities representing 17 countries became participants of the congress.

The official ceremony was opened by a welcome speech made by the Vice-Rector for Academic Work at Gubkin University Vladimir Koshelev. The event participants were also greeted by the Vice-President for Marketing at Schlumberger Artem Karapetov, the President of SPE International 2018 Darcy Spadi, the Head of SPE Regional Projects Francis Avril, SPE Russia and Caspian Regional Director Anton Ablaev, SPE regional projects specialist Yaroslava Orlova and the main coordinator for organizing the congress in 2018 Polina Letkova.

The program of the event included the plenary session, the main topic of which was “Digitization in the oil and gas industry”, and technical sessions in nine sections, including geological sciences, drilling and completion of wells, oil and gas fields development, oil and gas chemistry, health, safety and environment, petroleum economics and management, “smart” technologies for oil and gas industry. Poster presentations, where eight participants were able to demonstrate their projects, was also organized in the Palace of Culture "Gubkinets".

As part of the congress, the participants were offered to make a tour around the University facilities, and take part in the PetroOlympic Games - the intellectual game enabling the players to test their knowledge in the oil and gas area, and the Oil Fever – an economic game enabling the players to compete practicing their intelligence abilities and teamwork skills.

Thanks to HR-training, which was organized by Delloite, students learned how to better write a resume, and how to prepare for an interview – the most challenging thing in the process of job search.

At the international and regional round tables, representatives from 17 universities discussed the established ways of collaboration and offered new promising ideas for further development of cooperation.

The final event of the congress was the Career Fair, where the congress participants and students of Gubkin University were able to network directly with experts representing eight areas of the oil and gas industry, including geological exploration; oil and gas transportation; industrial and environmental safety; well drilling and equipment; business analytics; commercial analysis and consulting; development and exploitation of oil and gas fields; human resources.

During the award ceremony, the winners of the technical sessions and intellectual and economic games received certificates and gifts.

The event was sponsored by Schlumberger, Tatneft and Rosgeology. LUKOIL and the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council became the congress partners.
