Gubkin University Ranks Among the Top in the National Graduate Employability Rankings
Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) is among the leaders in the national graduate employment rankings, prepared as part of the national "Personnel" project. The rankings were published on the "Work in Russia" portal and are designed to help applicants assess the demand for graduates from various universities when choosing their future profession.
In total, the rankings included data from over 1,000 higher education institutions in Russia.
When compiling the national rankings, the Russian Ministry of Labor analyzed official data. The assessment was based on two key indicators: the share of full-time graduates employed in the second year after graduation, and the median salary at the end of the second year of work. Information on the number, specialties, and modes of study of graduates was obtained from Rosobrnadzor, while salary data was obtained from the Social Fund of Russia.
In the program "Applied Geology, Mining, Petroleum Engineering, and Geodesy," Gubkin University ranked third in the federal ranking for bachelor's degree graduates and first among oil and gas universities in the industry. Based on the employment rate of master's degree graduates, it ranked fourth in the national ranking and second among industry-specific universities.
In the program "Chemical Engineering" (bachelor's and specialist's degrees, master's degrees, and residency), Gubkin University ranked second among all Russian universities and became the leader among industry-specific universities.
According to the university's internal monitoring, graduates' salaries increase by an average of 30% during the first two years after graduation. Among industry companies, the largest employers are Gazprom, Rosneft, and Transneft, which offer the largest number of vacancies for young specialists.
According to HR services, salaries in the oil and gas sector will remain above the Russian average in 2026. In 2024, they increased, according to various estimates, by 6-16% depending on the position, and in 2025, the increase was up to 10%.
Previously, Gubkin University ranked first among industry universities for graduate employment and career quality according to the RAEX-100 ranking for 2025.
National graduate employment rankings are published on the "Work in Russia" portal and updated annually by April 1. In 2026, the ranking methodology became more detailed: groups of specialties and training areas were identified within fields of study. University rankings are compiled for 52 major groups, separately for undergraduate and specialist degrees, master's degrees, and residency programs.
