The round table on environmental protection from oil spills was held at Gubkin University

On 17 December 2019, the round table on environmental protection from oil spills was held at Gubkin University in order to strengthen the collaboration of the government authorities, companies operating hazardous production facilities, emergency rescue organizations, and research and academic institutions.

The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation in the framework of the agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology, Gubkin University and the International Anti-Counterfeiting Association.

During the round table, the participants exchanged practical experience in prevention and elimination of oil spills, discussed the issues of environmental and industrial safety at facilities for the extraction, refining, transportation, storage and sale of oil and oil products, prevention and elimination of oil spills – the responsibility of the state, business and the society.

The representatives of Gubkin University introduced the latest developments in materials for the elimination of oil and oil product spills in offshore areas.

The event brought together the deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the representatives of the government agencies, including the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation etc., the leading energy and transportation companies in Russia, the academic and research institutions working in the fuel and energy sector.

Following the outcomes of the round table, the participants developed the proposal on the improvement of activities aimed at preventing and eliminating oil and oil product spills, as well as made a decision to discuss the issues of improving the legislative regulation of oil spills at the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in the beginning of 2020.
