The conference “Heritage of Ivan Gubkin: Integration of Education, Science and Practice in the Oil and Gas Field” took place in Orenburg Branch
On April 24, 2018 as part of special events dedicated to the 88th anniversary of Gubkin University, the conference “Heritage of Ivan Gubkin: Integration of Education, Science and Practice in the Oil and Gas Field” took place in Orenburg Branch.
The speakers of the plenary session of the Conference, held in Orenburg Regional Universal Scientific Library named after N.K. Krupskaya, became the Vice-Rector for Regional Development at Gubkin University, Head of Orenburg Branch, Professor Sergey Gorshenin; the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade of the Orenburg Region Sergey Lipatkin; the Head of the Department of Geology and Licensing in the Orenburg Region Igor Fomin; the Director General of Gazprom Podzemremont Orenburg, Chairman of the Association of the Branch Alumni Pavel Gladkov; the Director General of Gazprom Gazoraspredelenie Orenburg Dmitry Borodin, the former Director of Orenburgneftegazravedka trust Lev Tolin. The faculty of the University Branch and specialists representing oil and gas companies of the Orenburg region also attended the event.
At the Conference, participants discussed the challenges and prospects of oil and gas business development, the issues of transportation, chemical technology, oil and gas production equipment and ecology.
Sergey Gorshenin, Head of Orenburg Branch at Gubkin University emphasized in his speech: “The oil and gas industry is the basis of the economy of the Orenburg region and the country as a whole. Ivan Gubkin highly estimated the oil reserves of the Ural-Povolzhsky region, figuratively naming the region “Second Baku”. Oil and gas of the Orenburg region are the implemented ideas of Ivan Gubkin".

Considering special merits of Ivan Gubkin in the oil and gas field discovery, the Conference participants called on the regional and city administration to name one of the streets in Orenburg after Ivan Gubkin as a recognition of the great scientist’s merits in development of the region’s economy and social area.
