Kazakhstan Seeks International Partners for Geological Research
Universities in the Republic of Kazakhstan are seeking international partners for scientific research, particularly in the fields of geology and geophysics. This was announced by Izbasar Meyirbek, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at a meeting with the leadership of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) on December 11, 2025.
A Kazakh delegation, led by Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education, paid a working visit to Moscow to discuss prospects for cooperation in scientific and educational fields. The delegation included rectors and directors of leading universities and research institutes in the Republic.
The Republic of Kazakhstan is expanding geological exploration. Promising areas for oil and gas exploration have been identified across the country. Organizations in the Kazakh oil and gas sector are interested in technologies that can increase oil recovery.
"We hope to expand our cooperation with leading Russian universities to develop advanced technologies," emphasized Izbasar Meyirbek.
Gubkin University has made a significant contribution to the development of well logging and nuclear geophysics, particularly in the formation of a unique national school of petrophysics, noted Rector Viktor Martynov.
"The university is currently conducting research covering all stages of the oil and gas production cycle, from geological exploration to ensuring information security for the fuel and energy sector," added Viktor Martynov.
At a meeting at Gubkin University, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation.
As part of their working visit, the Kazakhstan delegation also visited the Skolkovo Innovation Center, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, and other universities.
