Gubkin University is ready to begin developing technologies for offshore field development in Vietnam

Gubkin University is ready to begin developing technologies for offshore field development and hydrocarbon processing in Vietnam. This was announced by Viktor Martynov, Rector of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University), at a meeting with a delegation from the Russian-Vietnamese joint venture Vietsovpetro on October 10, 2025. Field development is being carried out under the terms of the production sharing agreement between Russia and Vietnam.

"The university is ready to conduct research to find more efficient technologies for field development and hydrocarbon processing, including new IT solutions. In 2024, the university's research and development activities for oil and gas companies, including foreign ones implementing joint projects with Russia, amounted to 1.3 billion rubles, and this figure is expected to increase. "We have the necessary potential to increase it," the rector emphasized.

Viktor Martynov added that Gubkin University is developing its own IT products for the oil and gas industry: computerized simulators for process facilities, such as oil and gas treatment units at the field level, liquefied natural gas plants, and others.

The head of the delegation of the Russian-Vietnamese joint venture Vietsovpetro, Mai Dag Tuan, noted that the company also hopes to develop educational cooperation with the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) to train specialists who will work on joint Russian-Vietnamese projects. Vietsovpetro is developing a number of fields on the Vietnamese shelf under a production-sharing agreement. These include the White Tiger field, to the study of which Gubkin University scientists made significant contributions in the 20th century.

"We would like to deepen our collaboration with the university as one of the world's leading research centers," emphasized Mai Dag Tuan. The parties discussed the possibility of concluding an agreement on scientific and educational cooperation.
