Developing Academic Partnerships with Universities and Scientific and Educational Organizations in China
From March 30 to April 7, 2026, a delegation from Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University), led by Natalia Lobzhanidze, Deputy Head of the Department of Geoecology and Geophysics, and including representatives from the faculties of Oil and Gas Geology and Geophysics, Chemical Engineering and Ecology, Economics and Management, and International Energy Business, conducted a scientific and educational visit to the People's Republic of China. This trip was a significant event, opening a series of university events as part of the implementation of Decree No. 28-rp of the President of the Russian Federation "On the Years of Russian-Chinese Cooperation in Education."
During a visit to China's major scientific and industrial centers – Shanghai, Xi'an, Beijing, and Suzhou – with the support of the Russian and Chinese Geographical Societies, a comprehensive research program was implemented, focusing on the study of modern urban models, geoecological modernization, and the concept of "ecological civilization."
Particular attention was paid to developing professional ties during a visit to Xi'an Petroleum University, where representatives from Gubkin University were introduced to the advanced scientific and educational infrastructure and discussed the implementation of modern technological solutions to minimize geoecological risks. During working meetings, the parties outlined ways to develop academic exchange mechanisms and joint educational programs, facilitating the university's deep integration into the international educational space of BRICS countries.
The results of the research conducted and the lessons learned in the field of sustainable development and energy cooperation will be presented by the delegation on April 23, 2026, at a roundtable discussion as part of the International Forum "Oil and Gas 2026." This visit laid the foundation for a long-term partnership and became an important step in strengthening scientific and technological cooperation between Russia and China.
