University Students at the Harbin Institute of Technology Global Summer School

From July 10 to August 2, 2026, the Harbin Institute of Technology hosted the HIT Global Summer School (HITGSS), an international educational programme featuring more than 20 thematic tracks, such as engineering, ecology, artificial intelligence, finance, and others. Its goal is to give students from around the world the opportunity to immerse themselves in an academic environment, work on a specialized topic in a small group, and meet peers from other countries. Students of the National University of Oil and Gas “Gubkin University” (NRU) took an active part in this summer school.

Elizaveta Korotyanskaya, a student of the Faculty of Integrated Security of the Fuel and Energy Complex (group KM-23-13), participated in the programme “New Generation of Intelligent Information and Communication Technology”, which ran from July 18 to August 2, 2026. In total, about 50 students from various universities and countries, including Russia, China, Spain, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and many others, attended the programme. In addition to lectures and practical classes, the summer school participants worked on a group project in which, divided into teams, they assembled an antenna for receiving signals from satellites. It was an excellent opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge in practice, improve teamwork skills, and gain practical engineering experience.

From July 10 to 19, 2026, the summer programme “Digital Economy and Intelligent Decision Making” was held, with participation from Margarita Astapenko, a student of the Faculty of Integrated Security of the Fuel and Energy Complex (group KM-23-13). The programme brought together faculty and participants from leading universities in Russia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, the USA, the UK, and Vietnam. Over two weeks, participants studied modern approaches to management decision-making in the digital economy, as well as the application of artificial intelligence, data analysis, and digital platforms in business and public administration.

The school covered topics such as the use of generative artificial intelligence and large language models in management, digital transformation of information systems, supply chain management, blockchain and digital currencies, behavioral aspects of human–AI interaction, business analytics, financial technologies, and data-driven decision-making methods.

Participation in the programme made it possible to broaden understanding of the role of modern digital technologies in risk management, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.

From June 20 to July 29, 2026, the summer programme “Climate Leadership and Digital Finance” took place, in which Veronika Chuvalova, a master’s student of the Faculty of International Energy Business (group BMM-24-03), participated. The programme covered three disciplines: “Market Microstructure: The Digital Transformation of Financial Markets”, “Climate Finance and Sustainable Development”, and “Causal Inference and Machine Learning”. The studies addressed the functioning of financial markets, digital transformation of the financial system, algorithmic trading, sustainable development, climate risks, ESG financing, data analysis, and the practical application of artificial intelligence technologies in various areas.

During visits to enterprises at the university, modern solutions in intelligent management of water supply systems using artificial intelligence and digital twins were presented. An excursion was also organized to one of China’s leading commercial banks (CMB), where modern digital banking technologies and the application of artificial intelligence in customer service were examined.

In addition to the educational programme, participants of all thematic tracks visited cultural and historical sites in Harbin, including Central Street, the HIT History Museum, and the Aerospace Museum.

Participation in the HIT Global Summer School (HITGSS) provided an opportunity to get acquainted with current global research in chosen fields, exchange experience with students from different countries, and establish new academic contacts.
