The Vice-President of BP Russia made a visit to Gubkin University

On October 12, 2017 Gubkin University hosted a meeting with the Vice-President for industrial safety, environmental protection and engineering at BP Russia Chris Mauer who delivered a lecture for students from the Department of Industrial Safety and Environmental Protection titled “Leadership in ensuring safety culture at fuel and energy enterprises”.

“Safety is everyone's business”, said Chris Mauer who additionally emphasized the fact that everyone should take care of his safety and the safety of the closest ones paying attention to the connection between such concepts as "safety" and “care”. The lecturer shared several real life stories that influenced his attitude to safety in general and led to research of such a notion as "the culture of safety”.

As part of the lecture, participants discussed the importance of safety in the fuel and energy complex as well as the experience of BP in strengthening the safety culture, including leadership as its driver at all levels. This is a fundamentally new approach to ensuring safe labor conditions for employees, which is actively applied within the company.

At the end of the lecture, Chris Mauer replied many questions and asked students to list the topics that might be interesting for transferring the company's experience in the future.
