Gubkin University hosted Summer School 2017

On July 02-09, 2017 Gubkin University hosted the Summer School: Modern Solutions for Oil and Gas Field Development, Well Construction and Logistics.

Every year students, young researchers and professionals from all over the world come to Moscow during summer season to strengthen their academic background in the oil and gas industry, expand their professional and social network and explore the Russian culture, traditions and hospitality.

In 2017, 30 international participants from 8 countries and 12 foreign universities, including the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, the University of Aberdeen, the University of Manchester, the China University of Petroleum, the Montanuniversität Leoben, the Brno University of Technology and others, attended the Summer School organized by Gubkin University.

All lectures were held in English in the Center for Marine Drilling launched with the support of Rosneft. Professors from Gubkin University, lecturers from the Montanuniversität Leoben and Molde University College, professionals from oil and gas companies shared their knowledge and experience with the participants.

The major topics covered during lectures and workshops included global energy trends, the evolution of well construction technologies, modern technologies and scientific and technical challenges in development of Arctic offshore fields, and marine logistics. The Summer School participants were also offered to attend the Center for Hydrocarbon Reservoir Management and the training ground for oil and gas transportation as well as to use offshore drilling simulators for practicing.

The classes were held in two subgroups depending on the interest area of the participants – oil and gas field development and drilling. The former were able to learn more about the high-tech wells, the concept of “a field of the future”, the methods of enhanced oil recovery and production stimulation, the environmentally sound development of offshore fields. The latter were offered to use special simulators to practice well control and learn about the features of extended reach drilling.

In addition to professional training and technical tours, the participants were engaged in various cultural activities in Moscow and two cities along the Golden Ring.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants of the Summer School received certificates.
