Gubkin Students at the International Summer School "Digital Diplomacy and Artificial Intelligence"

From August 5 to 16, 2026, the International Summer School (AEI-ASEM Summer School) on "Digital Diplomacy and Artificial Intelligence" was held at the Europe-Asia Institute of the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur.

This interdisciplinary summer school explored the intersection of artificial intelligence, diplomacy, and sustainable development. Particular attention was paid to how technological innovations influence governance processes and international cooperation in relations between Asia and Europe.

Over 30 students from various countries, including Japan, Pakistan, and the Philippines, participated in the summer school. Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) named after I.M. Gubkin Gubkin University was represented by Kira Sakevich and Taisiya Nikolaeva (group KO-25-16), who successfully defended their project on "How Digital Diplomacy Will Transform International Energy Relations" at the student conference.

The students were accompanied at the international summer school by Dmitry Medvedev, Head of the Department of International Security Cooperation (Basic), who, during his visit to Malaysia, held working meetings with the leadership of relevant departments at leading Malaysian universities – the University of Malaya, Universiti Putra, and the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia).

In addition to the educational program, the school participants visited the cultural and historical attractions of Kuala Lumpur, including the Royal Palace, the Batu Caves, a cruise on the River of Life, and other iconic sites.

The summer school also included a special screening of documentaries about Russian science and innovation, organized with the support of the Russian House in Kuala Lumpur. Viewers were treated to the films "Russia – A Laboratory for the World" about international scientific collaboration, "NICA. Made in Russia" about the search for answers to questions about the origins of the universe, and "Russia XXI Century. Science" about breakthrough technologies of the future.
