Forum "Russia, a Family of Nations"
On May 15, 2026, the forum "Russia, a Family of Nations" was held at Gubkin University to mark the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia.
Representatives of leading Russian universities responsible for youth policy and educational work, representatives of state and regional authorities, public figures, and the expert community participated in the event. Anton Tumanov, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Education at Gubkin University, opened the forum with a welcoming address.
"The state's nationalities policy is based on the historical experience of the formation and development of Russia as a distinctive state-civilization. Thanks to the unifying role of the state-forming Russian people and centuries-long intercultural and interethnic interaction, a unique cultural diversity and spiritual community of peoples have emerged within the historical territory of the Russian state. "Modern Russian society is united by a common cultural and civilizational code, which is based on the preservation and development of Russian culture and language, the historical and cultural heritage of all the peoples of the Russian Federation, and the integration of their best achievements into a unified Russian culture. The peoples of Russia have evolved over centuries and have contributed to the development of Russian statehood and culture. The ethnocultural and linguistic diversity of the Russian Federation, the historical experience, and the traditions of intercultural and interreligious interaction are the heritage of its multinational people and are protected by the state," Anton Tumanov emphasized in his welcoming remarks.
The following guests participated in the plenary session, "Strengthening the Unity of the Multinational People of the Russian Federation to Ensure the Country's Development, Its State and Territorial Integrity, and Internal Political and Social Stability": Aikaz Mikaelyan, Advisor to the Head of the Federal Agency for Nationalities; Alexey Cherkezov, Director of the Center for Harmonization in the Ethnoreligious Sphere and Strengthening Traditional Russian Spiritual and Moral Values in the Education System; Sergey Melnikov, Deputy Director of the N.N. Miklouho-Maclay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Nikolai Mazunin, Chief Specialist of the Department for Interaction with Religious Organizations, Office for Relations with Religious Organizations, Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of the City of Moscow.
Following the plenary session of the forum, two sections were held: "Strengthening All-Russian Civic Identity Based on Traditional Russian Spiritual and Moral Values" and "Ensuring Interethnic and Interreligious Harmony, Countering Extremism," as well as a presentation of the book "Donetsk State University on the Front Lines and in the Home Front: 2014-2025."
The first section identified and discussed best practices for strengthening all-Russian civic identity based on traditional Russian spiritual and moral values. This section was moderated by Maxim Resnyansky, Chairman of the All-Russian Interethnic Youth Union, and Anna Bakaeva, expert of the State Duma Committee on Nationalities. The second section was held as a presentation of the book "Donetsk State University on the Front Lines and in the Home Front: 2014-2025." The section was organized by the Russian Mission Charitable Foundation in collaboration with the creative team of Donetsk State University as part of the "Preserve the Memory of the Heroes of the North-East Military District" project, with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund. The section was moderated by Daniil Shchipkov, Associate Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation and co-founder of the Russian Mission Charitable Foundation. Speakers included: Director of the Institute of Civil Identity of the A.N. Alexander Mitsov, member of the Union of Journalists of Russia and lecturer in the Department of Journalism at Donetsk State University, Natalia Moskalenko, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Dmitry Andreev, participant in the special military operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine, graduate student in the Faculty of Economics at Donetsk State University, and assistant to a deputy of the People's Assembly of the DPR, Mikhail Tretyakov, and editor-in-chief of the newspaper "University News," participated in the Kosygin (Technology. Design. Art) program.
Events aimed at strengthening traditional Russian spiritual and moral values are regularly held at Gubkin University. The "Russia – Family of Nations" forum brought together over two hundred participants as part of the program.
