3d International Forum “New Generation: Across the Universe” was held at Gubkin University

On 24 February – 1 March 2019, the 3d International Forum “New Generation: Across the Universe” was held at Gubkin University.

The forum was aimed to bring together students specialized in the oil and gas field from universities around the world to exchange new ideas and experience, as well as to provide a platform in order to identify future trends in scientific and technological development in the field of the global oil and gas industry.

During the opening ceremony, the participants were greeted by the Rector of Gubkin University Viktor Martynov, the Vice President of Transneft Mikhail Margelov, the Vice-President for Marketing in Schlumberger Artem Karapetov, the Vice President of the World Petroleum Council Joanna Desjardins, the Vice-Chair of the Working Committee 2 – Gas Storage at Gazprom Nikita Barsuk, the Chair of the Committee of Young Professionals at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Vlada Streletskaya and the main coordinator of the forum Alina Nasrullayeva.

“Gubkin University cooperates closely with the international Society of Petroleum Engineers, which also supports this forum. We believe that it is important for students from different countries, as future industry leaders, to meet and just know each other in order to be successful in the future. Today there are about 320 universities in the world where petroleum engineering is taught. Some universities train more students in this discipline, the rest less. But technologies are the same everywhere, so the learning process should be similar, if not identical. By holding this forum, we just follow the goals of sharing knowledge, building new contacts and exchanging experience in education. I wish you all success, and I hope that we will meet again. And perhaps in the future you will greet us here as professionals and heads of companies!” said Viktor Martynov, Rector of Gubkin University.

The program of the forum included the plenary session devoted to the 6th Future Leaders Forum of the World Petroleum Council and the plenary session on the topic: “New steps in improving the quality of education”; a tour of the University departments where the participants were able to follow the entire cycle of oil and gas production using modern simulators and laboratories; OPEC case where students offered their own options for solving global economic and energy issues.

The key event of the forum was the meeting of the Coordination Council, where the participants discussed the issues related to the training of future oil and gas industry professionals and international cooperation between universities.

After the official part of the forum at Gubkin University, the participants spent two days at Zaluchye Academic and Industry Center, where they got acquainted with the Russian culture. The program included the Russian fair, the celebration of Maslenitsa, a series of trainings “Gubkin Talks” and a demonstration performance of horses.

The Forum was supported by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the World Petroleum Council (WPC). LUKOIL and the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council provided financial support to the forum.
