Open Day at Gubkin University

On November 30, 2025, Gubkin University opened its doors to future Gubkin students for its traditional Open Day. The event, held last Sunday, brought together over 3,000 interested applicants and their parents from across the country.

The event was opened by the university's rector, Professor Viktor Martynov, who welcomed the guests and spoke about the benefits of studying at Gubkin University.

"The university occupies a special place on the national higher education map. It was founded as a flagship university in the industry, and throughout its history, it has not only maintained but also strengthened its ties with industry-specific companies, training personnel for specific production needs and developing technologies for strategic projects in the oil and gas industry," Viktor Martynov emphasized.

This is confirmed by graduate employment data: almost 100% of graduates, including those specializing in fields not reflected in public statistics, find employment at companies in the industry with starting salaries at least twice the Russian average.

"Specialists with a Gubkin University diploma are sought after in industry because they have a high level of training and acquire knowledge and skills directly related to the specifics of their future work," the rector added.

Another distinctive feature of Gubkin University is its focus on youth policy and the development of students' ideological orientations based on traditional values.

"The fuel and energy sector requires a small number of specialists, but they are largely responsible for the country's well-being and independence, so we traditionally emphasize the 'Gubkin values': patriotism, responsibility for one's work, professionalism, and others," noted Viktor Martynov.

The event culminated in a concert featuring the university's student groups in the V.N. Vinogradov Gubkinets Palace of Culture.

First-year students who joined Gubkin University in September 2025 performed on stage: Liu Yuhan, a first-year student in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Ecology from China, and the Volkhova Folk Dance Ensemble (directed by Honored Artist of Russia Valentina Nikolaeva), the winners of the 2025 Freshman Day competition in the Best Dance Performance category, representing the Crystal Ballroom Dance Studio (directed by Alena Stadnik), and Ekaterina Drenicheva, a first-year student in the Faculty of Oil and Gas Field Development, the winner of the 2025 Freshman Day competition in the Most Outstanding Freshman category.

Following the concert, an open discussion with the university administration and the Admissions Committee took place. Rector Viktor Martynov, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Vladimir Koshelev, and Admissions Committee Secretary Viktor Telkov provided a detailed discussion of the 2026 admissions process and answered numerous questions from the audience. Viktor Popovich, Director of School No. 192, also shared information about the opening of Gubkin Classes at the institution, which are aimed at preparing future students of Gubkin University. He emphasized that this is an excellent opportunity for students planning a career in the oil and gas industry.

The open day was useful and informative for prospective students, giving them the opportunity to personally meet the university, its faculty, and students.
