University students win prizes at the 15th International Environmental Olympiad of CIS Universities
The 15th International Environmental Olympiad of CIS Universities was held remotely from April 13 to 24, 2026. Over forty teams from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan participated in the Olympiad.
The goal of the Olympiad is to improve the quality of training qualified specialists, increase students' interest in scientific research, create the necessary conditions for supporting talented young people, and develop human resources in the field of ecology for research, design, production, and scientific activities, while integrating into the international educational environment.
Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) was represented by two teams, consisting of undergraduate and graduate students from the Department of Industrial Ecology. The team leader was Associate Professor Marina Orlova.
The Olympiad was held in four stages:
- Stage One: "Best Team Business Card";
- Stage Two: Theoretical Round;
- Stage Three: A Creative Competition (Essay) on the Topic "Electric Transport: An Environmental Solution or a New Problem";
- Stage Four: A Practical Round. The topic of this round was "Developing a Housing for the Future Project by Integrating Environmental Solutions into Residential Development."
A team of Gubkin University students consisting of Arina Saidmagomedova, Denis Ganov, Valeria Ivanova, Ilnara Izmailova, and Alexey Shcherbina took second place in the "Best Team Business Card" competition.
In the theoretical round, the Gubkin University team, consisting of Vera Poletaeva, Polina Artemova, Dmitry Novikov, Elizaveta Osadchaya, and Anna Pashkova, took second place. The second university team won third place.
Both Gubkin University teams shared third place in the creative competition.
Diplomas of varying degrees were awarded to individual members of the two Gubkin University teams for participation in all four stages.
Based on the Olympiad's results, the team consisting of Vera Poletaeva, Polina Artemova, Dmitry Novikov, Elizaveta Osadchaya, and Anna Pashkova took third place.
