Gubkin University Students Win Top Honors at the 4th International Geological Championship "GeoVyzov"

From August 27 to September 10, 2026, students from Gubkin University participated in the 4th International Geological Championship "GeoVyzov" in Ufa.

The "GeoVyzov" championship aims to promote mining and geological professions to the public, demonstrate the importance of geology in studying and expanding mineral reserves for national sustainable development, and foster networking and cooperation among young professionals from different countries.

Forty teams participated: 27 representing various educational institutions in Russia and 13 from countries around the world. The Gubkin University team performed impressively across a wide range of theoretical and practical challenges within the geological discipline.

Gubkin University was represented by a combined team of members from the Student Scientific Society, drawn from the Faculty of Oil and Gas Field Development and the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics of Oil and Gas.

The students achieved victory and top placements in six geological competitions:

1. Field Camp Setup – First Place – Laysan Sadritdinova (Group RS-25-10), Darya Chernova (Group GE-25-06), Sonya Vafina (Group GR-25-02), Alexander Abramov (Group GR-24-02).
2. Oil and Gas – Second Place – Laysan Sadritdinova (Group RS-25-10) and Alexander Abramov (Group GR-24-02). 3. Radiometry – third place – Laysan Sadritdinova (group RS-25-10) and Alexander Abramov (group GR-24-02).
4. Heavy mineral sampling – third place – Darya Chernova (group GE-25-06).
5. Crystallography – third place – Sonya Vafina (group GR-25-02).
6. Paleontology – third place – Tatyana Pashina (group GL-24-08).

Based on the competition results, the Gubkin University team took third place overall.

The participation of Gubkin University Student Scientific Society members in external events is carried out as part of the Society’s development program, "Strategy of New Discoveries."
