Gubkin University Students Win Prizes at the 3rd International Olympiad in Gas Processing and Gas Chemistry
Students from Gubkin University won prizes at the 3rd International Olympiad in Gas Processing and Gas Chemistry, dedicated to the university's 95th anniversary. The intellectual competition took place from December 5 to 12, 2025, and brought together over 700 participants—students and young professionals from six countries.
The first round of the Olympiad was attended by 231 undergraduate and graduate students from 24 educational institutions, as well as 76 young professionals from 29 specialized organizations, including GL Engineering, Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat, Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk, Gazprom Pererabotka, Gazprom Proektirovanie, Gazprom LNG Portovaya, LUKOIL-Volgogradneftepererabotka, LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez, Yamal LNG, Arctic LNG 2, SIBUR-Kstovo, Uzbekistan GTL, Bukhara Oil Refinery, and others.
Students and young professionals who demonstrated high results advanced to the second round of the Olympiad. The finalists included students from Ufa State Petroleum Technological University (including its branch in Salavat), Belarusian State University, Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas, Omsk State Technical University, and Gubkin University, as well as promising young specialists from the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant (Gazprom Pererabotka LLC), Novye Resursy, and Yamal LNG OJSC.
In the final round, held on December 12, 2025, the participants solved complex problems presented by leading industry companies, such as Gazprom LNG Portovaya LLC and Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat LLC.
At the end of the Olympiad, Gubkin University students Danila Gavrilov and Alexander Zaychenko, along with Pavel Lagutin, a specialist from Yamal LNG OJSC, shared third place. Second place went to Victoria Ivaschenko (USPTU) and Ekaterina Glushchenko (Novye Resursy). Ainur Atayeva, a student at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas, won.
The Olympiad, co-organized by Gazprom Pererabotka, became a platform for exchanging experiences and identifying talented young people. The winners and runners-up were awarded commemorative prizes from Gazprom Pererabotka and Gubkin University, recognizing their high professionalism and stimulating their further development in the oil and gas industry.
"Talented young people from all over the world are solving problems faced by real-life industries and seeking new approaches. We are pleased that the Olympiad is becoming increasingly popular worldwide every year. This demonstrates the rapid development of gas processing technologies—the most promising resource today for meeting humanity's energy needs and providing raw materials for chemical products," noted Firdaves Zhagfarov, Head of the Gas Chemistry Department at Gubkin University.
In 2025, the Olympiad was timed to coincide with the 95th anniversary of Gubkin University, where the first Russian scientific school of gas chemistry and specialized department were established.
