On 27 April 2021, a special ceremony was held within the National Oil and Gas Forum to award students who became the winners of the scholarship established by the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council. Three out of ten scholarship winners are the representatives of Gubkin University: Mr. Boris Anikushin, Mr. Kirill Goridko and Ms. Nailya Nugmanova.

The scholarship winners were awarded diplomas and personalized statuettes. Mr. Valery Yazev, Chair of the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council, and Ms. Vlada Streletskaya, Director of the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council, participated in the ceremony.

Mr. Pavel Sorokin, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, and Mr. Gennady Shmal, President of the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia, congratulated a group of scholarship winners, noting that in the conditions of the energy transformation and increased competition in the energy markets, the success of the oil and gas industry will be determined by the level of economic and environmental performance of implemented projects. Digital transformation and other innovative tools are important drivers of progress, but the human factor will play a key role.

The scholarship was established by the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council in 2015 to encourage students and postgraduates who excel in their studies and research. It is considered one of the most prestigious awards for future oil and gas professionals. Any potential specialist studying oil and gas disciplines at a higher educational institution of the country may become a scholarship applicant.
