Gubkin University faculty members and students held a meeting on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War

On 5 May 2022, a special meeting was held at Gubkin University on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Veterans, faculty members, cadets of the Military Training Center and students participated in the meeting and laid flowers at the memorial to those students, faculty and staff members who died in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945.

The years of the War became the most difficult times in the life of the country and Gubkin University, posing new challenges for the team: defense of the Homeland, research work, development of new technologies for the exploration, production, processing and transportation of oil and oil products to help the front.

The normal life of students and faculty and staff members was continually affected by the War. In July 1941, 53 faculty and staff members joined the people’s volunteer army and 255 went to the front, 36 of them remained on the fields of the War forever, and 45 were awarded the medal “For the Defense of Moscow”.

At the main entrance to the University, a memorial meeting and a ceremony of laying flowers were held to pay a tribute to the memory of those faculty members and students who died in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945 Professor Viktor Martynov, Rector of Gubkin University, vice-rectors, heads of departments, leadership of the Military Training Center and students participated in the events.

“During the Great Patriotic War, Gubkin University was together with the country and with the army. Gubkin University representatives both at the front and in the rear demonstrated courage and bravery to attain victory in any military situation. Today we are proud that Gubkin University representatives of all generations contribute to the defense capability of our country. We remember and admire them,” said Professor Viktor Martynov.

The veteran of the Great Patriotic War Ms. Valentina Belous, Deputy Chair of the Council of Veterans of the Gagarinsky District of Moscow, also welcomed the event participants.

The choir of the Military Training Center, the Cossack Ensemble “Stanitsa Gubkinskaya” and soloists of Gubkin University vocal studios performed at the concert organized at the main entrance to the University. The choir of foreign students performed the legendary songs “Alyosha” and “Katyusha”. A student from Bulgaria made a speech emphasizing the importance of the Victory not only for Russia, but for the peoples of Europe, including Bulgaria.

As part of commemorative events, an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Great Patriotic War was organized in the hall of Gubkin University.
