The 11th International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress “Oil and Gas Horizons” was held at Gubkin University

On 18 – 21 November 2019, the 11th International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress "Oil and Gas Horizons” was held at Gubkin University. The event was organized by Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter.

In 2019, 92 students and young researchers, representing 22 universities from 15 countries participated in the congress.

The official ceremony was opened by a welcome speech made by the Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs at Gubkin University, Alexander Maksimenko. The event participants were also greeted by the Assistant Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Kirill Molodtsov, the Vice-President for Marketing at Schlumberger Artem Karapetov, the Senior Vice President of the World Petroleum Council Anatoly Zolotukhin, the Director of the WPC Russian National Committee Vlada Streletskaya, the Director of SPE Moscow Section Anton Ablaev, the Coordinator of the Non-profit Projects of SPE Russia and Caspian Region Yaroslava Orlova, the Student Programs Coordinator of SPE Moscow Section Eleonora Belova and the main coordinator for organizing the congress in 2019 Mikhail Ivlev.

The main theme of the plenary session was “Transformation of the Oil and Gas Industry”. The program of the congress included the technical sessions in geosciences, drilling and completion, oil and gas field development, oil and gas transportation, storage and logistics, health, safety, environment, oil and gas chemistry, petroleum economics and management, smart technologies. In addition, two sessions in oil and gas exploration and production, and oilfield services, oil and gas marketing and processing were held for postgraduate students. During the technical sessions, 70 students delivered their presentations. The representatives of companies and universities acted as judges of the technical sessions.

As part of the congress, the session of poster presentations, the technical lectures on the topic of the transformation of the oil and gas industry, as well as the international and regional (Russia and the Caspian region) round tables to discuss the cooperation development were held.

The representatives of Schlumberger organized a technical case for students to demonstrate teamwork and knowledge in the mechanized oil production. The event participants were also offered to take part in the PetroOlympic Games – the intellectual game enabling the players to test their knowledge in the oil and gas area.

The final event of the congress was the Soft-Skills Fair organized for the congress participants and students of Gubkin University by such companies as Halliburton, Tsifra, Hilti Distribution Ltd, Nouri Petrochemical Company, as well as SPE Moscow Section and young faculty members of Gubkin University.

During the award ceremony, the winners of the technical sessions, the intellectual game and the technical case received certificates and gifts.
