Gubkin University hosted XIV International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress "Oil and Gas Horizons"

From 29 November to 2 December 2022, Gubkin University hosted the XIV International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress "Oil and Gas Horizons" onsite and offsite. The event was organized by Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter with the support of the Student Scientific Society. In 2022, more than 250 representatives from various universities in Russia and worldwide took part in the congress.

Oil and Gas Horizons is a unique international platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience of oil and gas industry specialists from all over the world. In 2022, the event was held in a blended format, all international participants received the opportunity to join online.

The congress was opened by welcoming speeches delivered by Mr. Nikita Golunov, Vice-Rector for Continuing Professional Education of Gubkin University, Curator of Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter, Mr. Artem Karapetov, Vice President for Commerce, Marketing and Strategy of Schlumberger, Mr. Alexander Obishchenko, Head of Evaluation and Staff Development of PJSC LUKOIL, Mr. Sergey Kolbikov, Head of Field Development Forecast and Monitoring Division at NOVATEK, Mr. Anton Ablaev, Director of SPE Moscow Section, Mr. Valery Kulchitsky, Chair of Central Board of Interregional Public Organization “Scientific and Technical Society of Oil and Gas Workers named after Academician Ivan Gubkin”, Ms. Lesana Kurbonshoyeva, Chair of Committee of Young Specialists at World Petroleum Council, and Mr. Dias Gimatdinov, Chief Congress Coordinator.

The congress program included a plenary session aimed to discuss the prospects for the development of the oil and gas industry and alternative energy sources, a keynote speech and a technical lecture. The key event of the congress were the technical sections, where students presented their papers in fifteen sections. In addition, a round table was organized for senior secondary school students from all over Russia. In total, 190 participants presented their scientific works during the technical sessions. In 2022, the technical case was developed with the support of Schlumberger. The PetroOlympic Games were also held as part of the congress. These events allowed the participants to test their knowledge as well as to find solutions for the pressing issues in the oil and gas industry.

As part of the congress program, the tours to Skoltech campus and laboratories as well as cultural activities around the sights of Moscow were organized.

The congress was closed with an official ceremony to award the winners of the technical sessions, the intellectual game and the technical case. During the ceremony, Mr. Dias Gimatdinov and Ms. Vlada Streletskaya, Assistant to the Rector of Gubkin University, greeted the participants.
