Gubkin University hosted the 10th anniversary meeting of the International Expert Council for Cooperation in the Arctic

On 23 November 2022, Gubkin University hosted the 10th anniversary meeting of the International Expert Council for Cooperation in the Arctic (IECCA). Traditionally organized by Gubkin University and the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, the event was aimed to discuss the international cooperation in the Arctic in new geopolitical conditions.

The plenary session was moderated by Mr. Sergey Grinyaev, Dean of the Faculty of Integrated Security of the Fuel and Energy Complex at Gubkin University.

The meeting brought together scientists and experts from nine countries, representing 16 universities and research organizations.

Opening the event, Mr. Alexander Maksimenko, Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs of Gubkin University, welcomed the participants. In his speech, he emphasized that the Arctic has been a model region of international cooperation for many years despite the intersection of interests of many countries. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Council, Mr. Alexander Maksimenko presented memorable gifts to the permanent experts.

Ms. Daria Lobanova, Deputy Executive Director of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, also welcomed the participants and noted the unique nature of the project and paid special attention to the importance of similar platforms for maintaining a constructive dialogue in the Arctic.

At the meeting, the seventh edition of Arctic Review, the official IECCA publication, was presented. It includes the articles by leading scientists involved in the development of the Arctic region.

Representatives of the International Maritime Organization (a specialized UN agency), Molde University College – Specialized University in Logistics (Norway), the Center for Innovation and Transformation of Energy and Natural Resources (Australia), Karabuk University (Turkey), the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg State University, Moscow State Linguistic University and other scientific and educational organizations spoke at the meeting on relevant issues.

Under the umbrella of the meeting, the Second Student Summit "Arctic of Youth", the presentation of the federal program of the nongovernmental organization “Clean Arctic”, as well as the intellectual game “PetroOlympic Games” were held.
