Gubkin University at St. Petersburg International Gas Forum 2021

On 5-8 October 2021, the 10th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, one of the largest business events in the gas industry, was held in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Forum is a unique platform that brings together annually representatives of the global gas community. In addition to a wide exhibition program, it offers a substantive and relevant congress agenda from year to year.

In 2021, experts from different countries, top managers and specialists of large oil and gas companies became participants of the Forum. The four-days program included discussions in 20 subject areas: import substitution, unconventional types of gas, logistics and transportation, development of human resources and investments. Representatives of relevant ministries and agencies of the Russian Federation, Russian and international industry associations, scientific organizations, analytical centers and higher educational institutions participated in the Forum.

The main issues raised at the Forum covered the development of the Russian gas market and global trends in the development of the gas industry. The results of the discussions contributed to articulating concrete steps aimed at the progressive development of the industry in the short and long term.

Professor Viktor Martynov, Rector of Gubkin University, participated in the round table on targeted training of specialists for the fuel and energy sector, organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation. Within the round table discussion, the key challenges, areas and prospects for the practical application of the targeted training mechanism for the development of human resources in the interests of fuel and energy organizations were discussed.

Gubkin University faculty members participated in the business program of the Forum by contributing to the international conference «Contribution of the Oil and Gas Industry to the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals», moderating the session «Industry Attractiveness in a Changing World: Dialogue of Generations» and the 8th International Conference-Seminar «Energy & Money: Global and Local Energy Markets».

As part of the business program of the Forum, a ceremony was held for the winners of the International Young Scientists Awards in the Field of Oil and Gas: A Glance Into the Future 2021 Senior Researcher Alexander Serovaisky, Associate Professor of the Department of Physics at Gubkin University was awarded for the study «The role of natural gas in the development of world energy» conducted by Gubkin University together with KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden).

During the Forum, Gubkin University and KPMG Tax and Consulting LLC signed the Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at joint research, improvement of the existing educational, laboratory and research facilities, organization of joint projects to obtain additional knowledge and competencies.
